NEW PRESIDENT & CEO:

We are pleased to announce the appointment of J.C. Dollar as the new President and CEO of Crossroad.

J.C. Dollar has 29 years of experience in various child and family social service agencies including Elon Homes for Children in North Carolina, Children’s Harbor in Alabama, Holston United Methodist Home for Children in Tennessee, and most recently FamilyLinks in Pennsylvania.

He has an extensive background in developing and managing a wide range of services for children and families.

J.C. has two master’s degrees, one from the University of North Carolina in Social Work (his major was child and family services) and the other from Southeastern Theological Seminary in Divinity.

He has served as pastor for two United Church of Christ parishes in North Carolina and has been a volunteer reviewer for three accreditation bodies.

J.C. has been very active in a variety of professional and community organizations including state and national child care associations, Child Welfare League of America, Alliance for Children and Families, Council on Accreditation for Families and Children, United Methodist Association of Health and Human Services, Rotary International, United Way, Chambers of Commerce, The United Church of Christ and others.

J.C. is married, and his wife Carol is an artist and "professional volunteer." They have one son, Scott, who is 30 years old. Scott attended Gallaudet University and Jacksonville State University and is a graduate of the National Helen Keller Center. He is a strong advocate for the deaf and blind and the issues they face.

The Board of Directors formed a search committee to recruit and select a new President and CEO for Crossroad, and were fortunate to have many qualified candidates apply for the position. We are excited about the appointment of J.C. Dollar because of his past experience and achievements, and his commitment and demonstrated success in helping children and employees reach their potential.

Please join us in welcoming J.C. Dollar and his family to the Crossroad family!

KIDS STUFF:

Due to a grant from the Foellinger Foundation, Crossroad youth had the opportunity to concentrate on learning life skills.  Skills they worked on included: Integrity/Honesty, Organization/Planning, Listening Skills, Courage, Initiative, Perseverance/Persistence, Effort/Achievement, Safety/Restraint, Responsibility, Friendship, Choosing Role Models, Interpersonal Skills, Caring, Pride/Self Esteem, and Good Health.

Thanks to another Foellinger Foundation grant, our youth were also involved in a project to help us determine the qualities and traits that help a person work effectively with the young people of today.  Through projects using photography, drama, essays, collages, and discussions of the book Finding Fish, the youth had an opportunity to focus on the concepts and express their opinions.  They were also involved in focus discussion groups.  One thing they all agree on is that adults who work effectively with youth actively listen to them!
