Dollar and his family to the Crossroad family!
Due to a grant from the Foellinger Foundation, Crossroad youth had the opportunity to concentrate on learning life skills. Skills they worked on included: Integrity/Honesty, Organization/Planning, Listening Skills, Courage, Initiative, Perseverance/Persistence, Effort/Achievement, Safety/Restraint, Responsibility, Friendship, Choosing Role Models, Interpersonal Skills, Caring, Pride/Self Esteem, and Good Health. Thanks to another Foellinger Foundation grant, our youth were also involved in a project to help us determine the qualities and traits that help a person work effectively with the young people of today. Through projects using photography, drama, essays, collages, and discussions of the book Finding Fish, the youth had an opportunity to focus on the concepts and express their opinions. They were also involved in focus discussion groups. One thing they all agree on is that adults who work effectively with youth actively listen to them! The following is a poem written by a Crossroad resident:
